Day 1: Can we change?
I've been thinking a lot about whether and how people change. Both of my kids believe that DNA is destiny. If so, then if I have the "fat gene", I am destined to be this way forever, and can only change by going against everything that is in me.
To some extent, that's true. Sin is our true nature, and we have to work against Satan's schemes. But I think about 1 Corinthians 9:24-25: All the runners run, but only one gets a prize. Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that lasts forever.
The key, I think, is "strict training". Am I willing to be focussed like a lightning bolt on God's will for me, and His desire for health in my life. And what does that look like in day-to-day life?
And back to my issue of celebrating the good foods and exercise opportunities of the season, can I do "training" that is fun..like the basketball drills and games the kids play?
Today's food: fruit shake for breakfast, sushi and chinese for lunch, and salad and soup for dinner. Two meals eaten out. Part of this celebration has to be how to find fun yet healthy foods when meals are on the road.
