Day 56: Salt addiction
I am really becoming serious about the fact that I am addicted to salt.
Here are the signs:
1) High blood pressure
2) Swelling, bloating (have you SEEN my ankles???)
Plus a series more--the reading I've been doing points out fatigue, kidney issues, etc that I have as well.
So I am doing what I can to cut salt out of my life. Step one: switch from Diet Coke to Diet Rite (no sodium, no caffeine). Next step from that--switching from Diet Rite to water. Step 2: no added salt to food. None. Zero. Zip. Experimenting with spices ok. Step 3: No processed food. This is a cheat--it's rare I eat processed foods now...but I do eat out at least once a day. So, Step 4: lunch into the office at least 2 days a week. (Can't do more than that because of the entertainment requirements of the job.)
I'll report back next week. In the meantime, a Veggie chili recipe from Food Network that is our "go to" recipe:
